PRODA for Doctors

PRODA for doctors

Provider Digital Access (PRODA) is a secure online portal provided by the Australian Federal Government, allowing doctors and healthcare professionals to easily access essential online healthcare services. Through PRODA, clinicians can log into Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) and My Health Record (MHR). Here’s a breakdown of four valuable features available through PRODA that simplify administrative tasks for doctors:

1. Quick Provider Number Registration

With HPOS, doctors can quickly register for additional provider numbers when working at new locations. This instant, online approval is far more efficient than submitting paper forms and waiting weeks for Medicare to process them. The ability to get provider numbers instantly speeds up billing for Medicare, DVA, and private health funds, ensuring faster claim processing and reimbursement.

2. Easily Update Medicare and DVA Bank Account Details

For doctors handling Medicare bulk-billed patients and DVA (Department of Veterans’ Affairs) patients, quick payment is key. Medicare payments are usually processed within one business day of claim submission. If you need to update your bank account details for these payments, HPOS allows you to make the changes online—significantly faster than requesting a bank account change manually.

3. Order Prescription Pads Online

Commencing 1 December 2024, ordering personalised prescription pads will only be available through HPOS. To access this feature, once logged in, go to “My Programs” and select “PBS Stationary Ordering Online.” This update makes it easy for doctors to obtain their required prescription pads without the hassle of manual ordering.

4. Access to My Health Record (MHR)

The My Health Record (MHR) is Australia’s centralised electronic health record, enabling clinicians to access patients’ medical history, pathology, radiology, and specialist reports when needed. To set up MHR access, you’ll need your HPI-I number (available via your Ahpra portal), after which you can register as a PRODA Organisation and link your HPI-I number to it. Though setup requires a few steps, MHR access can provide invaluable insights into a patient’s health background. If you are asked for your ANZICS code, try 8512 or alternatively 8511.

5. How to register for PRODA

Head here to register for PRODA. After verifying your email address, you’ll need at least three government documents to verify your identity, such as your Australian passport, driver’s licence and Medicare card. Once your identity is established, you can link HPOS to your PRODA account, as well as set up a PRODA organisation if you plan to access MHR.
